Update
Construction began in late June 2006 with the east and south additions expected to be completed in summer 2008. The landscape redesign will be completed soon thereafter.
As of June 2008: In the south addition, the exterior louver system is being installed. Interior construction partitions have been removed and the new spaces can be viewed from the pre–existing studios on the third and fourth floors. In the east addition, mechanical, electrical and plumbing work continues. The wood ceiling installation and other finishing work is nearing completion. Some elements of the landscape are taking shape this month with the placement of boulders, gabion walls, and a retention pond. Planting, however, will largely be reserved for the favorable weather in the fall.
The Building Additions
Since the original construction of Campbell Hall in 1970, the school’s life, and the occupant demands and expectations of its residents, have changed. Growth in the school’s faculty and student populations, changes to curricular structure and goals, the evolution of the underlying values held collectively by the members of the school community now necessitate additional space for varied uses. In the past two decades, the size of the student body has almost doubled, while the faculty has nearly tripled in number. The introduction of graduate programs in architecture and landscape architecture has additionally expanded demand for design space. Similar growth in the planning and architectural history programs now necessitates additional classroom and seminar space.

Design+Build Projects
In 1999, before the building additions commenced, Dean Karen Van Lengen initiated a program of Design+Build projects in and around the school. These projects, developed by faculty members in collaboration with students, build out the space around Campbell Hall.
