University of Virginia School of Architecture Foundation Welcomes Three New Trustees


The University of Virginia School of Architecture Foundation is pleased to announce the election of three new trustees to its Board: Catherine Heath, Eric D. Groft, and Floyd Worsley, Sr.  Their leadership experience, design expertise, and passion for the University of Virginia will enhance the Foundation’s mission to support the School of Architecture.

“The addition of our new trustees comes at a pivotal time for the School as we expand our initiatives across research, design and teaching excellence, while ensuring accessibility to a world-class education,” said Dean Malo A. Hutson. “I am grateful for the commitment, leadership and unique skills that Catherine, Eric, and Floyd bring to the Foundation Board of Trustees and look forward to working with them to advance our mission.”

Foundation Board President David Haresign acknowledged and welcomed the new trustees. “I am impressed with their diverse expertise and their shared commitment to the UVA School of Architecture and its public mission. Their involvement and leadership will be essential in supporting the School's goals as it enters the final year of the University’s Honor the Future campaign.”

Catherine Heath

Catherine Heath

Catherine Heath, FIIDA, AIA, LEED AP, is the Founding Partner and CEO of HYL Architecture, providing vision and strategy and overseeing all operations of the firm out of offices in Washington, D.C. and New York City. She is recognized as a design leader by her industry peers, elected to the International Interior Design Association’s College of Fellows in 2021. Her design career has included leadership roles on projects for some of the most notable corporate headquarters, law firms, and government agencies in the US and abroad. She has worked at scales ranging from 1,000 to more than 4 million square feet. Projects under her direction have won more than 30 design awards and been featured in numerous design and business journals and publications. Heath holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Architecture from the University of Virginia and a Master of Architecture degree from the University of Pennsylvania.
 

Eric D. Groft

Eric D. Groft

Eric D. Groft, FASLA, is renowned for a diverse body of work, including residential, commercial, and institutional work, spanning 40 years. He is CEO and Director of OEHME, VAN SWEDEN | OvS based in Washington, D.C. His commissions include the 2020 renovation of the White House Rose Garden; a riverine landscape in St. Louis, Missouri’s historic Forest Park; the American Museum and Gardens in Bath, UK; the Federal Reserve Campus in Washington, D.C., and two major projects at the University of Virginia: The Shannon Library Quadrangle and the University’s renovated and expanded bookstore. He is widely recognized as an industry leader in ecological sensitivity, environmental restoration, and shoreline stabilization. Groft holds a Master of Landscape Architecture degree from the University of Virginia and a Bachelor of Arts degree with majors in geography and environmental science from Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania.
 

Floyd Worsley Sr.

Floyd Worsley, Sr.

Floyd Worsley, Sr. is a Houston, Texas-based project manager at Steinberg Dickey Collaborative, LLP providing architectural services from the land planning process through the construction of a project. His projects range from multifamily residential and mixed-use to student and senior housing developments. In addition to his professional background, he previously served as President of the National Pan-Hellenic Council of Houston, Inc. and Vice-President of the National Pan-Hellenic Council, Inc. He remains an active alumni member of the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity. Worlsey, Sr. holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Architecture with a Minor in Urban and Environmental Planning from the University of Virginia.

As a 501(c)(3) Public Charity, the Foundation raises and receives philanthropic contributions on behalf of the School, invests endowment funds on behalf of the School, and provides those funds to the Dean of the School according to donor intent. The Foundation works very closely with the Dean to advance strategic objectives and achieve School priorities through philanthropic support.
