Biography
Esther Lorenz is a licensed architect and academic with education from TU Graz and TU Delft. Her research explores the connections between architecture and cultural practices, from the study of new urban formations to investigations of the intersections between media and architecture, with a focus on Chinese Urbanization and the city of Hong Kong. Lorenz has been an invited lecturer and guest critic at academic institutions internationally, and her work has been exhibited in biennales in Venice, Hong Kong and Shenzhen. She is co-editor of Kowloon Cultural District: An Investigation into Spatial Capabilities in Hong Kong (2014) and co-author of Typological Drift: Emerging Cities in China (2021). Her research and teaching have been recognized with the UVA Excellence of Education Abroad Award (2019), and the 2021 ACSA Creative Achievement Award.
