Biography
Reuben M. Rainey is the William Stone Weedon Professor Emeritus. His research and publications focus on the history of landscape architecture, cultural landscape studies, and the design of patient-centered healthcare facilities, including healing gardens and acute care hospitals.
Before entering the field of landscape architecture in 1975, he taught comparative religion at Columbia University and Middlebury College.
Before retirement in 2006, he taught design studios as well as lecture courses and seminars in the history of landscape architecture in the United Kingdom, Europe, India, China, Japan, the Near East, South America, and the United States. He also offered courses in the history of the American cultural landscape and the design of patient-centered medical facilities. Since retirement in 2006, he has continued to teach a seminar on the design of patient-centered medical facilities.
