Stacy Scott is a designer, researcher, and educator currently serving as an Assistant Professor at the University of Virginia School of Architecture as a member of their inaugural fellowship program. Stacy earned her Ph.D. from Clemson University and her M.Arch. from Georgia Tech (Go Jackets!). Her background lies at the intersection of design and social impact. Stacy’s work focuses on using architecture and thoughtful design as tools to improve patient well-being, promote efficient workflows for healthcare professionals, and contribute to positive therapeutic outcomes.

She spent several years working for numerous esteemed design firms in a variety of domains, including healthcare, residential, and industrial architecture, where she gained priceless practical experience in design research for multiple client and patient populations. Her dedication to architecture research and desire to harness its ability to connect with underserved communities has garnered recognition, including the ARCC King Medal for Excellence in Architectural + Environmental Design Research.

As a graphic and architectural designer, Stacy’s background has been essential to meeting her goal of creating meaningful and impactful designs. She believes that by understanding the needs and experiences of different populations, she can design spaces that meet functional requirements and foster a sense of belonging and well-being. Stacy’s interdisciplinary approach allows her to seamlessly integrate graphic elements into architectural designs, creating visually appealing and cohesive environments that focus on health and are human-focused.

Through her work, she strives to challenge conventional design norms and create spaces that truly resonate with people from all walks of life. Making information and research a core, digestible, and equitable part of architecture, a tool she is excited to share with students. Her approach to teaching is to help students gain a firm grasp of fundamentals theoretically and practically so they can then create and break their own rules.

In her downtime, Stacy can be found looking for more sweaters for her four-legged best friend, Nova. And when it’s time to unwind, she enjoys the art of calligraphy and a delicious cup from her collection of fine teas!
