Biography

Alexia Nalewaik brings over 30 years of experience in project controls, quantity surveying, and project management to her teaching. She is best known for working at the intersection of theory and practice, solving problems for organizations and capital projects at every lifecycle phase, with a special focus on forensic and preventative efforts, and immediate return on investment.

She is a consultant, researcher, and global keynote speaker, on topics in social value, cost management, performance audit, and systemic risk. Her three books, industry and government guidance, and over 100 scholarly peer-reviewed papers have been recognized through awards from Project Management World Journal, American Society of Civil Engineers, Pacific Association of Quantity Surveyors, International Cost Engineering Council, and Instituto Brasileiro de Engenharia de Custos. Her most recent book is Strategic Project Analysis: A Powerful Set of Cost-Benefit Tools and Techniques for Managers (December 2024).

Prior to joining UVA, Alexia lectured at George Washington University and American University. She is a past president of AACE International, past chair of the International Cost Engineering Council, a former member of Governing Council for the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, and a Fellow of all three.
