Biography

Eric Callaway serves as the Director of Admission, where he manages recruitment, admission, and yield initiatives. Partnering with faculty and staff across the A-School and the University of Virginia as a whole, he fosters an exciting, equitable, and accessible enrollment environment. Eric also manages the A-School Student Ambassadors, consisting of around 20 current students at both the undergraduate and graduate level.

Eric joined the A-School in the Summer of 2023, coming from Appalachian State University (App State) where he served as the Associate Director of Enrollment Experiences. At App State, Eric managed medium and large-scale recruitment events along with advising the university’s ambassador program. Event registration, attendance, and yield rates had record highs during Eric’s time at App State, with the Appalachian Student Ambassadors securing several university-wide accolades (including “Student Organization of the Year” in 2021). Eric has also held a variety of roles on recruitment teams at Valdosta State University and Sam Houston State University, where his leadership and efforts contributed to both schools enrolling the largest incoming classes in their histories.

Eric began his time in enrollment management during his first year as an undergraduate student. As a student-athlete at Valdosta State University, Eric was eager to find a way to start giving back to his school and found his opportunity through the orientation leader program. Being an orientation leader led to working as tour guide and serving as an ambassador, but it also was where Eric found his love for helping students achieve their collegiate goals.

Eric earned a Bachelor of Arts in English from Valdosta State University. His favorite authors include Isaac Asimov, James Baldwin, and H.G. Wells.
