Applications for competitive School of Architecture administered scholarship and fellowship awards are collected and reviewed throughout the academic year.
SEPTEMBER 1 – Application opens for J-Term Study Abroad Funding

DECEMBER 1 – Application opens for Independent Travel Funding
FEBRUARY 1 – Application deadline for Independent Travel Funding;
Application opens for Summer and Fall Semester Study Abroad Funding

APPLICATIONS ARE RECEIVED THROUGH ACADEMIC WORKS, THE UNIVERSITY OF VIRGINIA’S SCHOLARSHIP MANAGEMENT SYSTEM.
The General Application in Academic Works is open for the 2023-2024 academic year. Please complete the General Application first, then apply to specific opportunities you are interested in.
Application requirements vary by opportunity. Students should refer to the opportunity page in Academic Works for each of the scholarships and fellowships listed below for more detailed information.
For maximum scholarship and grant consideration, you must complete both the FAFSA (https://studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa) and the CSS Profile (https://cssprofile.collegeboard.org/).
BENJAMIN C. HOWLAND TRAVELING FELLOWSHIP
Eligibility: MLA students who will have completed at least 1 year of study before the proposed period of travel and will be enrolled at least for at least 1 semester after the proposed period of travel
Purpose: Independent travel and research
Application Process: Applications are received through Academic Works and are due February 1
BEVIN AND VITO CETTA ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP
Eligibility: Graduate students who will be enrolled in the final year* of their program during the upcoming academic year.
Purpose: Financial support based on stated need.
*Note: Path 2.5 students who will graduate after the upcoming fall semester will also be considered
Application Process: Applications are received through Academic Works and are due May 1
CARLO PELLICCIA TRAVELING FELLOWSHIP
Eligibility: School of Architecture students who will have completed at least 1 year of study before the proposed period of travel and will be enrolled at least for at least 1 semester after the proposed period of travel.
Purpose: Independent travel and research, primarily in Rome
Application Process: Applications are received through Academic Works and are due February 1
CLARK CONSTRUCTION SCHOLARSHIP
Eligibility: Rising 4th-year BS Architecture students; U.S. citizens; cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
Purpose: Financial support for one or more undergraduate School of Architecture student(s) in the BS Architecture degree program
Application Process: Applications are received through Academic Works - more details forthcoming.
FANZONE TRAVEL AWARD
Eligibility: School of Architecture students who will have completed at least 1 year of study before the proposed period of travel and will be enrolled at least for at least 1 semester after the proposed period of travel.
Purpose: Independent travel and research
Application Process: Applications are received through Academic Works and are due February 1
GALSWORTHY ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP
Eligibility: International undergraduate students who are rising 2nd, 3rd, or 4th-year students. U.S. Citizens and Permanent Residents are not eligible.
Purpose: Financial support for undergraduate international students (foreign-nationals) studying at the School of Architecture
Application Process: Applications are received through Academic Works and are due May 1
PAUL S. DULANEY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Eligibility: Rising 2nd-year Master of Urban + Environmental Planning students
Purpose: Financial support for a graduate Urban + Environmental Planning student who demonstrates a strong interest and commitment to conservation
Application Process: Applications are received through Academic Works and are due May 1
SARAH MCARTHUR NIX TRAVELING FELLOWSHIP
Eligibility: Rising 4th-year BS Architecture students and M.Arch students who will have completed at least 1 year of study before the proposed period of travel and will be enrolled at least for at least 1 semester after the proposed period of travel.
Purpose: Independent travel and research, in France
Application Process: Applications are received through Academic Works and are due February 1
SUSAN NELSON FLEISS ENDOWED TRAVEL SCHOLARSHIP
Eligibility: School of Architecture students who will have completed at least 1 year of study before the proposed period of travel and will be enrolled at least for at least 1 semester after the proposed period of travel. Preference will be given to undergraduate applicants.
Purpose: Independent travel
Application Process: Applications are received through Academic Works and are due February 1
SCHOOL OF ARCHITECTURE STUDY ABROAD FUNDING
Eligibility: School of Architecture students participating in School of Architecture Study Abroad programs.
Purpose: Financial support for students participating in School of Architecture led Study Abroad programs
Application Process: Applications are received through Academic Works and are due October 1 (J-Term programs) or March 1 (Summer and Fall programs)
The Academic Support Fund was created by the School of Architecture Foundation to assist students with out-of-pocket costs that challenge the pursuit of academic excellence in the studio and the classroom.
Health Insurance Expense Request Form - request an increase to your Cost of Attendance to accommodate possible additional loan amounts to cover the cost of health insurance.
Hoo Needs Help – financial support for students who need assistance with unexpected, unforeseen, and unavoidable emergency expenses.
One-Time Computer Expense Loan Form - request an increase to your Cost of Attendance for the purchase of a computer and other peripheral devices (printer, external monitor, etc.)
SFS Emergency Loans - short-term, interest-free loans available to undergraduate students for up to $500 and graduate students for up to $750 per semester.
Affinity Organizations - The Alumni Services department of the UVA Alumni Association offers support to alumni and students who share affinities as part of their UVA experience. These affinity groups include fraternities, sororities, secret and honorary societies, sports teams, and a wide variety of student clubs and organizations.
Alumni Association - The University of Virginia Alumni Association administers more than 250 different scholarships ranging from modest stipends to full tuition, room and board. Many of these scholarships are available through an application process independent of the University’s financial aid process.
