ZHANG KE
Thomas Jefferson Visiting Professor, Architecture
Born in 1970, Zhang Ke founded ZAO/standardarchitecture “标准营造” in 2001. With a wide range of realized works over the past 17 years, the studio has emerged as one of the most critical and innovative protagonists among the new generation of Chinese architects. Recent works include the Novartis Campus Building in Shanghai, a number of Hutong transformation projects in the historic centre of Beijing, and various buildings embedded in the landscape of Tibet. The work of Zhang Ke and his studio has been the subject of several solo exhibitions in Europe- most recently at the Maison Louis Carre in Paris, France, 2018; the Bielefeld Kunstverein in Germany, 2017; the Museum of Finnish Architecture in Helsinki, Finland, 2017; the Aedes Architekturforum in Berlin, Germany, 2015; and the Zumtobel Lichtforum in Dornbirn, Austria, 2015. In 2016, Zhang Ke was invited to exhibit in the Central Exhibition at the 15th Venice Architecture Biennale. More about Zhang Ke.

HUGO FENAUX
Lecturer, Architecture
Hugo Fenaux is an architect at Bushman Dreyfus Architects. He has a broad range of design experience working on different project types and scales, including residential, educational, and office projects. As a problem solver, he welcomes the challenge of figuring out how projects get put together. Whether it's a wall section of a building or a joint on a piece of furniture, he enjoys digging into the details. Fenaux is a licensed architect and LEED Approved Professional with a Master of Architecture from Yale University and a Bachelor of Science from the University of Virginia. More about Hugo.

TYLER HINKLE
Lecturer, Urban and Environmental Planning
Tyler Hinkle, AICP, is the County Planner for Shenandoah County in Virginia. In this role, he performs all long-range planning efforts from Comprehensive Plan updates to larger visioning processes. He also works with applicants through Special Use Permits, Rezonings, Conservation Easements, Agricultural And Forestal Districts, as well as mediation work. For five years Tyler guided the County in an innovative approach to create a new Comprehensive Plan with residents involved in co-production throughout the process. Tyler is currently working on implementing the Plan which balances preservation and place-based investment in towns, villages, and hamlets. Prior to returning to where he grew up, Tyler attended UVA and worked as a researcher for Dr. Suzanne Moomaw, during that time he also served as the President of the Student Planners Association from 2019-2020. ALEXIA NALEWAIK
Lecturer, Urban and Environmental Planning
Alexia Nalewaik brings over 30 years of experience in project controls, quantity surveying, and project management to her teaching. She is best known for working at the intersection of theory and practice, solving problems for organizations and capital projects at every lifecycle phase, with a special focus on forensic and preventative efforts, and immediate return on investment. She is a consultant, researcher, and global keynote speaker, on topics in social value, cost management, performance audit, and systemic risk. Her three books, industry and government guidance, and over 100 scholarly peer-reviewed papers have been recognized through awards from Project Management World Journal, American Society of Civil Engineers, Pacific Association of Quantity Surveyors, International Cost Engineering Council, and Instituto Brasileiro de Engenharia de Custos. Her most recent book is Strategic Project Analysis: A Powerful Set of Cost-Benefit Tools and Techniques for Managers (December 2024). More about Alexia.

THEO TEICHMAN
Lecturer, Landscape Architecture
Theo Teichman is a landscape designer and soundscape composer based in Charlottesville, VA. They are a staff designer for the Morven Sustainability Lab, visioning sustainable land use transitions and climate adaptations. Prior to joining the Morven Sustainability Lab, Theo worked as a horticulturalist for the City of Charlottesville, Department of Parks. In addition to their professional practice, Theo continues to develop their research on a queer ethics of care for novel and hybrid ecologies. In their research, they center the latent agencies of materials and landscapes, integrating place-based pedagogy, speculative design, and material biography in order to comprehend the arts of dwelling in damaged worlds. Their research is transdisciplinary in nature and spans media from traditional to exploratory–such as documentary film, soundscape, and procedural animation–and has been exhibited in Charlottesville, Reykjavik, Belgrade, and Pittsburgh. EMMY FEAMSTER
Department Manager, Architecture
Emmy Feamster joined the School of Architecture in January 2025 as the Architecture Department Manager. She holds a Master of Education in Postsecondary Administration and Student Affairs from the University of Southern California and a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from JMU. Emmy spent the last decade working in administration and management positions at the University of St. Andrews, most recently serving as the Deputy Head of Education Policy and Quality within the Education and Student Experience Unit. In her role, Emmy will manage the academic and event coordination, administrative processes, and budget development and management for the Architecture Department. She will also serve as the primary support for the Department Chair. More about Emmy.

LISA JENNIS
Advancement Associate, School of Architecture Foundation
Lisa Jennis is a Philadelphia native with over three decades of experience across IT, marketing, office management, and education. Most recently, Lisa worked as a Development Representative for the Bryn Mawr Hospital Foundation in suburban Philadelphia. Her diverse career has honed her adaptability, reinforced her commitment to delivering exceptional results, and fueled her passion for collaborating with dynamic teams. Joining the University of Virginia's School of Architecture Advancement Team, Lisa is excited to relocate to the Charlottesville area to be closer to her family and to become more involved with both the UVA community and the local area.
